Buffalo National River and NW Arkansas
This morning was a mixed bag, but it was good to get back to the river and the valley after a break. I returned to see that most of the field up by the 43/21 intersection had been burned off. Nothing to eat means no elk for now. It is possible that there could be a significant elk herd south of the intersection, but not so likely.
This morning I saw the same herd bull and cows, but some new satellite bulls. They were packed in tight just north of the observation pullout, and they migrated further north for to bed down for the day. This is a pretty strong pattern, and has been stable for a couple of weeks.
I can't say I got any exceptional pictures, but a day behind the camera is a good day. A day behind the camera on the Buffalo National River is even better. Sometimes you don't meet your photographic objectives, but paradise never disappoints. There is the unfolding morning, birds and scents of the wild. Nice work if you can find it.
Today's pictures:
Boxley Valley Update -- 10/08/08
The herd bull elk.
Next year's star, this year a satellite, best rack in the valley.
Luminous blue flower on river bank. Some ways the idea of a wild flower season is a little crazy. Not bad for mid-fall.
Early fall color, my favorite. In the morning the rising sun provides a natural frame and a focused reflection.
Yes, I take pictures of just about anything. River chubs on a rock shelf.
Commorant and turtles in a river pool.
Notes:
The pictures in this blog in most cases are just roughed out and not really adjusted in photoshop with care. (if somebody wants a prints of one of these, it would be much better in most cases.) I just do a quick and dirty edit with Digital Photo Professional.
Some of the color corrections of elk in the shade on blue green grass are a bugger to get right.
On the blue flower, yes, it is luminous. Not sure what it is yet, but I would like them in my garden.
