Buffalo National River and NW Arkansas
The elk were farther south this morning as I imaged they would be. There are a couple of herds on the back fields and eventually they will return to the valley (as they always do). There is still some good elk viewing. How the weekend will shape up is hard to say. We are in a pattern change. There are some elk at the far south end of the valley. The bottom line is that the elk herds will be moving around now for a few days and a new pattern will emerge.
This morning I threw the dice and came up empty. I decided to try to get some better otter pictures but the animal never showed. I waited quite a while after seeing a marine mammal. I think now what I caught a glimpse of was a beaver. They tend to be very timid. There is one in the same area. Zip
I tried to get back to a good elk viewing position and was just too late. I did see the herd migrate and the bull elk bugled a half hour after I saw it, but never showed his face. So, things just didn't work out most ways.
Oddly I got a sharp frame filler of a blue heron as it flew by me. Very odd, but with digital you just blast away sometimes and you hit it right. I sure don't miss film and the days I didn't want to spend money to experiment with marginal shots.
Kind of a lousy day considering, but I was due for one after an amazing September. These things always run in cycles. Fall color is perking up real well now. I see much more red every day and we are having a good run of cold nights.
